Spain remains popular destination for British expats

According to a Daily Telegraph article, the nation continues to be a popular destination for such people. It suggested that the laid-back lifestyle and convenient location of the country are two of its major attractions.

Meanwhile, drawing attention to some of its other benefits, it noted that more than four in five expats living in the Costas and Balearics say they have a lower cost of living than they did in the UK, with nearly as many reporting they have an improved quality of life and are happier than they were in Britain.

It based its remarks on research conducted by Lloyds TSB International. The firm’s expatriate banking director Richard Musty said: “We conduct regular surveys among British expats to understand the reasons why people decide to leave the UK.

“Many people move abroad for job opportunities, but quality of life is also a major factor, and many people are attracted to moving abroad because it offers them a more relaxed way of life, new life experiences or better weather.”

He went on to note that anyone moving abroad should have a good understanding of issues like tax status, foreign exchange and local laws.

It may also be crucial for the individuals to learn a new language, Mr Musty pointed out.
