The Coast to Coast walk was the brainchild of Arthur Wainwright, the much treasured fell walker who is famous for his beautiful Lake District guidebooks. He recognised the beauty of the Northern coast and hoped that one day it would be possible to walk all the way from the coast of the North West to the stunning North East coast he loved so much. Today, his dream is a reality and 190 mile Coast to Coast walks are taken by thousands of people in the UK each year.
Natural Beauty
The official Coast to Coast walk stretches all the way from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay, a picturesque fishing village in the North East. Along the way, the route encompasses three glorious national parks: The Lake District National Park, The Yorkshire Dales national Park and The North York Moors National Park. With so much natural beauty to explore, this makes Coast to Coast walks the perfect holiday for nature lovers and with more than 190 miles to explore, walkers who enjoy the thrill of exploring on foot will certainly get a kick out of the walk.
Stunning Scenery
In the UK, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that we have such stunning scenery on our own doorstep. Coast to Coast walks offer the perfect opportunity to rectify this by getting back to nature and exploring the beautiful land in which we live.
All Abilities
The great thing about Coast to Coast walks is that they are there for everyone. It doesn’t matter whether you are a seasoned hiker or someone who has very little experience of walking, the coastal walks can work for you. There is no doubt that there are a few more challenging parts of the walk but, on the whole, the Coast to Coast walk is not demanding.
If the 190 mile challenge is too much for you, then walking just a short stretch of the path can be good for you and if you book a Coast to Coast holiday, you can have fantastic accommodation arranged for you each night, giving you the chance to recoup and recover before continuing on your journey.
