If you have a passion for climbing then you are going to know that with the fun, excitement and physical and mental benefits, comes a genuine potential for danger. However, by taking a few simple steps in advance, you are likely to find that it is easy to stay safe and that even if you do get into trouble, you will have the best possible chances of resolving the problem.

When climbing, trekking or hiking, there is a good chance that you will often be alone, detached from civilisation, and unable to get a good strong mobile phone signal to boot. As such, if you get into trouble, it may be nearly impossible to contact people to come to help you out, and in turn something that could have been a minor issue may quickly become a major one.

The first step to take should be to always climb with a friend. Doing so will mean that if one of you gets into trouble, the other will be on hand to help. It will also be very advisable to plan your route in advance so that you do not get lost and potentially find your health or safety in danger as a result.

It will also be important to take the right first aid supplies, and also to have been on first aid courses to ensure you know how to respond to certain health issues or injuries. Whilst a small kit may be beneficial, it may actually make much more sense to take emergency medical equipment with you as well. By being fully prepared for any eventuality, not only might you have a better chance of surviving serious injuries, but you may also simply be able to stop a minor problem leaving you stranded or ultimately turning into something far more serious.
