Some of these systems are fitted with security lights and CCTV or video cameras. These can be triggered, or switched on, either when movement is picked up or when an alarm sensor is triggered. At this point, the area being monitored is lit up and either still photos or video are recorded. At the same time, almost instantaneously, the security companies control centre is told that the alarm system has been triggered. They then take the course of action that has been previously agreed with the business whose premises they are monitoring. In most cases, the action is to review the video or photos. If there is, evidence of intruders the police can be called.
Some clients have key holders or contracts with local security firms who may be dispatched to the site either instead of or as well as the police. In many cases, they can get to the site quicker than the police can and may be able to actually stop the theft. At the very least, they can secure the area to prevent thieves returning to take more.

Surprisingly, many homeowners use the same security companies as businesses do. The price of these services has dropped drastically over the past few years. This makes it possible for most homeowners to be able to afford a full monitored alarm system.
