Man seeks compensation following motorbike accident

A man has contacted personal injury solicitors in a bid to secure compensation over a motorbike accident.

In February 2009, Melvyn Bottom was travelling on his silver Honda Goldwing motorcycle when he was involved in a collision. The incident, which also involved fellow road user David Borrett, took place on the A605 at Warmington near Oundle.

It is alleged that Mr Borrett had exited a side road unsafely in his blue van while Mr Bottom was driving along the main road. The crash occurred at 7.30am.

According the 52-year-old’s legal team, he suffered serious neck, head, back and wrist injuries and has also experienced psychological problems as a result of the accident. Because of this, he is seeking hundreds of thousands of pounds in compensation.

Meanwhile, Mr Borrett’s vehicle was also substantially damaged in the collision and the road was blocked for half an hour while the wreckage was cleared and investigations were undertaken.

In June 2009, the van driver’s insurers admitted liability for the accident. They acknowledged that Mr Borrett had exited the side road unsafely, causing the motorbike accident. However, the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement concerning the sum of compensation Mr Bottom should receive.

His legal team have issued a writ for £300,000 for his pain, suffering and loss of amenity.

The case is due to be heard at the high court at a later date. Already, during earlier stages of the case, expert medical evidence was submitted. This included statements provided by a spinal surgeon, orthopaedic surgeon, neurosurgeon and clinical psychologist.

However, according to the writ issued, further evidence will be needed because of the severity of the injuries involved.

Many of those who suffer serious accidents like the one that affected Mr Bottom choose to contact personal injury solicitors in order to take legal cases forward.
