Invest in a Good Coat This Winter

Given the awful summer we have had, it is unlikely that we will have a mild winter. In fact, some are forecasting a very harsh winter ahead. Forecasters believe that this year’s unprecedented loss of arctic sea ice will result in harsh conditions. In the past, when the ice in the arctic sea has melted like it has this year the UK and Europe have suffered extreme winters.

Therefore, if you have not already done so you really should go out and look for a good winter coat for yourself. Luckily, there is quite a bit of choice out there, so finding a good quality coat you will enjoy wearing will not be difficult.

Ladies Coats and Jackets for winter 2012

There really is every kind of coat imaginable available on the High Street this year. The majority of them are three quarter or knee length rather than full length. From a practical point of view, most of them are made with warmth in mind, so there are plenty of 100% wool coats available as well as many different padded coats too.

Luckily, funnel necks are very much in, this year. Paired with a light scarf a funnel neck buttoned or zipped to the top provides good protection against even the iciest wind. Most of this seasons coats also button up rather than zip up, providing proper protection from inclement weather.

If your coat does not have a hood, consider buying a hat to go with it to provide additional protection from the cold. You really do lose a lot of heat from your head.

Hedge Your Bets Buy a Jacket Too

However, bear in mind that the forecasters have been known to get it wrong and consider treating yourself to a winter jacket too. A good quality light jacket made from natural material not only looks great it will keep you warm too. If the forecasters do turn out to be right, you can still wear your jacket under your coat. Be sure to buy a versatile jacket that will go with as many of the trousers, skirts and dresses you plan to wear this winter, as possible.
