Guide to Buying Towels

Whether you’ve just moved into a new house and have to replace your old towels, are buying towels for the first time or would like a few extra sets, this towel buying guide can help you get the perfect set.

First, buying a towel isn’t always easy, you have to choose the colour, the wash, the softness, the weave and in many cases, even where and how the fabric was made. Here is a basic guide to picking out the right fabrics for your bathroom sets.

Types of Weave

There are multiple different weaves that you can choose from. These include a variety of methods that work to change the texture of the fabric.

Ringspun – Ringspun means that the cotton has been spun together to create a fine yet durable fabric.
Zero Twist – This fabric is softer than twisted towels; however, it also isn’t as durable.
Microfiber – An absorbent combination of tree fibre and cotton
Two Ply – A double tensile fabric that is durable and absorbent

Types of Fabric

It is also important to choose the appropriate type of fabric. In most cases, 100% cotton is the best choice because it is soft, plush and durable. Other choices include rayon, sateen and polyester, although, while cheap, these options usually aren’t very soft.

A few good cotton choices include Egyptian cotton, which is probably the most famous for its softness, Supima cotton, microfiber cotton, Turkish Cotton, Organic Cotton and more.

Terry cloth is a material that uses cotton and terry cloth to create an extremely absorbent fabric. Cotton bamboo fibre is a new blend of bamboo fibre and cotton for an absorbent, soft towel with a beautiful, natural sheen.

Different Sizes

Another choice that you will have to make is the size. The average size for a bath towel is 70x120cm; however, fabric can also be purchased for the face, for the hands and for guests. You can also choose larger options such as bath sheets and extra-large bath sheets. These can measure as much as 90×145 -100×170.
