According to one survey, not only are salaries higher than some industries, almost all of the people questioned for the survey responded that they worked full time. So not only is IT offering impressive salaries, it is also offering them to full time employees. Full time for the purposes of this specific IT job survey was defined as over 30 hours a week, meaning more than 3 days per week was required to be worked to qualify as full time. So this could indicate that not only is IT paying well but for those employed in it, it is a full time career.
While those numbers do seem quite positive, there is a flip side to every statistic. While of those who were surveyed as employed enjoyed an almost 100% full-time employment rate, the picture was not as rosy across the board. Of the respondents to one specialist IT job board’s survey, over 30% were not currently employed. While the survey did not break them down by skill type or level, this does seem less than rosy for those who are looking. IT jobs may seem to be moving in a constant positive direction but it is clear that not everyone is moving with them.
While the picture across all IT job boards is not completely rosy, the overall picture is positive. There are strong salaries being reported by most people, strong numbers of job being posted and a strong number of people in full time employment in the sector. If ever there was a seemingly recession-proof sector, this may be it.
