Unfortunately, despite Government attempts to boost safe sex awareness using advertising in recent years, there are more sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) than ever affecting young people in the UK. Chlamydia is the most common infection.
There are around 100 million new cases of Chlamydia around the world each year. It’s the most common STD internationally as well as in the UK. Scientists say it is a highly evolved bacterium that has a potential to form new versions which become resistant to antibiotics.
In England in 2010 more than 150,000 adults under 25 tested positive for Chlamydia – but most didn’t notice any symptoms so hadn’t known they had the disease prior to testing. Doctor Martin Holland from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine explained that if two strains of the disease infect the same host then they could exchange DNA and create an entirely new strain. He said: “This provides real clues as to how the bacterium is able to avoid the human immune system and cause disease.â€
Anyone in Manchester who has concerns about STDs and is considering having a full sexual health screen should visit a private clinic to put their mind at ease and, if necessary, get appropriate treatment. People who have recently experienced a risky sexual incident, or who ARE showing any apparent symptoms, should think about arranging a health test by a qualified private GP in Manchester.
Having a sexual health test is the only way to find out if someone has an STD. Many STDs either have no obvious symptoms, or share common symptoms which can be confused with those of other conditions. Pall Mall Medical offers the option of a male or female private GP in Manchester. Results are always 100 per cent confidential and can be acquired within 3 to 6 days.
