New Homes Are Still Being Built

If you read the papers and online press, you may be left with the impression that the UK has virtually no new homes being built. The press is constantly running stories about how flat the housing market is and how slowly everything is moving. They report on how difficult it is for people to get on the housing ladder and for existing property owners to get a new mortgage and move into a new flat or house.

However, there are in fact quite a lot of new homes being built and sold. Firms are still investing in building new houses, flats and other residential units. They are actively seeking planning permission for more, and with good reason.

Why New Houses and Flats are Still Being Built

Whilst it is true that getting together a good deposit, getting your first mortgage or a new mortgage is, an issue there is still demand for new house in the UK.

The UK is on the verge of an actual physical housing shortage. Statistics show that the population is expanding at a rate that means within a relatively short period of time there will not be enough homes to go around. The UK’s homebuilders know this. They plan for the future and know for certain their new build homes will be sold, if not straight away, fairly soon. However, they also recognise the very real difficulties that exist for current buyers.

Builders Actively Help Buyers to Buy

This has led many of the larger, and some of the smaller, builders to step in and come up with innovative ways to help buyers. They know that if they do not do so their new homes will sell too slowly to keep cash flowing through their business a fast as it needs to. They need sales today to fuel the purchase of land and pay for the process of getting planning permission. The more land they buy and get permission to build on now the better. When the point is reached where housing is physically in short supply, they will be in a position to make far bigger profits.
