Home improvements on the agenda for UK consumers

The type of guttering, fascias and so on that people use for their properties is important not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also on a practical level. With the right products, consumers can better protect their properties from the elements.

Demand for items like this may be high at present. After all, new research has found that a considerable number of people are planning to make improvements to their homes.

According to a study conducted by Nationwide Building Society, almost half of homeowners (47 per cent) are keen to make enhancements to their abodes within the next year. This is considerably higher than the eight per cent who intend to move to new houses or flats during this period.

As well as the inside of their properties, individuals might want to revamp the exteriors and, as part of this, some may consider getting new guttering and fascias.

Meanwhile, it was found that 72 per cent of those who are intent on getting stuck into work on their properties want to update or modernise their décor, while nearly one in ten are running out of space in their properties.

To help them fund the work, some people are taking out loans and the most common sum borrowed is around £10,000 to be paid back over five years.

Commenting on the findings, Nationwide’s head of personal loans Paul Wootton said: “A static housing market means many people are unable to move home and are opting to make home improvements instead.”

He went on to draw attention to the importance of securing competitive interest rates on any money borrowed.

By being savvy in terms of the loans they choose and the products they invest in, people can save a considerable amount of money when they are conducting work like this.
