Faster trains, new super-fast railway lines, bullet trains, moving platforms, those are just some of the possibilities for the future of train travel. So book train tickets now for a ride on the ICE, (the Inter-City Express) of tomorrow.
Welcome to Moving Platforms for a high speed journey from Newport to Brussels. One thing that you will find very different from how it used to be, with six tram, bus and train changes, you simply get on your local tram at Newport and get off the high speed ICE at Brussels; there is no need for you to get off a single train despite the fact that you will be travelling on several of them. If this is your first trip on Moving Platforms, then please bear with us as we explain how it all works.
With Moving Platforms all the individual elements of rail transport, for instance local trams and high speed trains are interconnected in a huge infrastructure that enables passengers to make international train journeys from a local stop near their home to a local address in a different city and country and yet never alight from a train.
The design of Moving Platforms was based on the design of the internet and it uses a set of similar interconnecting networks. The main non-stop high speed trains do not pass through any major cities, but they pass outside them and they connect with local feeder trams that take passengers to and from them.
You will notice that as a feeder tram approaches, the high speed train will slow down just a little, and that during your journey on the feeder tram that it will speed up as it approaches the high speed train.
The next thing that will happen is the two of them dock. When they have done so, you will be kindly requested to transfer from tram to train, or from train to tram. Don’t work, there is plenty of time for you to do so and the staff is there to help you.
After all passengers have transferred, the tram and train will separate. The train will speed up and the tram will slow down for the next leg of the journey. For the tram this may be to a destination station or to another high speed train.
Moving Platforms mean that we do not have to waste money constructing huge railway stations and high speed rail links that are really not that fast as the trains need to slow down and stop to allow passengers to embark and disembark. The high speed trains on Moving Platforms only slow down slightly on journeys that can take them over several continents.
We also operate a Moving Platforms freight service and its ever increasing popularity means that there are far fewer trucks on the road and that goods reach their destinations far more efficiently and much faster than they used to do.
The Open Platforms Network was officially opened in 2082 by the Chinese Prime Minister.
